In this video I draw back to my own heritage, through the story of La Llorona. The title refers not only to the immersion of children into their untimely and tragic deaths, but also immersion into cultural simiarlities and differences.
As a country home to people of various racial and ethnic backgrounds, genders, and sexualities; the media does not always reflect the rich history and stories people has lived, thus silencing certain voices.
In creating this video, I play with the romanticism of suburbia and an idlic summer. This slice of life was a way to experiment with natural lighting and shadows.
The concept for this project was to create a disoriented view of reality from the perspective of the phone, hence the camera width. Often times jumping down rabbit holes on the internet and social media and finding information, subcultures, and content alters my sense of time and my surroundings.
For this project, I explored the methods of manipulation and characteristics of the leader(s) that causes people to either join or realize that they have been recruited into a cult. Every person wants a sense of belonging and community with others, whether it be of their own volition, or through seduction into a new reality.
